Thanks for your reply, Mike. The attachment that failed was a MS Word doc, from Word 2000.
I presumed that this was strictly a timing issue since the send/replication failure takes less than a second, enough time for a simple message to go but insufficient time for one with a file attachment. It did not occur to me to try different file types.
My word doc has features that are not supported by Word 95, so even if it would work, that isn't much of a solution. However, I will try other file types, and/or a word-95 file, in an effort to help narrow down the problem.
